The song "Invincible" was written after I had finished up work on "Further." After spending the better part of a year watching Pez produce my songs, I was determined to try producing myself.

I hunkered down in front of my computer and started demoing "Invincible," messing with drum loops, applying equalization and generally mucking about, not really knowing what I was doing.

At first I couldn't get the sounds in my head to match the sounds coming from my computer speakers, but I just persisted. It was a lot of trail and error, and I had to keep reminding myself that this was all educational. Little by little, it came together. It was a good lesson in patience.

Once I had the song sounding the way it should, I sought the help of Canadian Singer/Songwriter/Producer Allister Bradley. He re-mixed the track and cleared up some of the remaining sonic issues. I also re-cut the vocal track with him. Lastly, he used some of the parts from my mix and added some parts of his own to create the "Acoustic" version of Invincible that you hear on the end of the album. (That's Allister singing harmonies and doing percussion.)

"Coming Home" was recorded at Pezmosis sometime last winter. I wanted it to be a bare-bones recording, the opposite of "Further" which was a very slick and full.  "Coming home" is just guitar, bass and drums. I never would have stood for that while making my first album. I would have layered it with everything possible - more keyboards, more strings, and an army of guitars. The whole exercise on "Coming Home" was to pull it back, and I love the result. Pez's final mix of the song sounds BIG, wide and beautiful.

The next step was to track some tunes "live" from the recording studio floor. Pez set up some microphones and I just sang and played. No over-dubs or second chances. What you hear is what you get, just like a live show. The only thing missing  from the recording is an audience.  I wanted to give you guys something that was as close to my live performance as possible. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoy playing.

So what's next? I have no idea. I've given up on trying to plan things out. Things happen as they happen, usually spontaneously. It may not be the smartest way, and it certainly isn't the way to get rich, but it's the most exciting. We'll just have to see where the current takes me next.
